Patchwork Heart Scarf ~ Pay it Forward February

{Have you ever heard about a situation and it just breaks your heart and you feel like you HAVE TO do something about it?A few months back I met a lady, Lovely Reckley, and she told me how she goes to four different schools in Abaco and feeds 85+ children that would have otherwise had no lunch. For some of these kids, this is the only meal of the day.Lovely even takes food to some of them when school is out.That really broke my heart. I mean, I know there are kids all over the world that are starving, but when I realized there were children right under my nose it killed me. I kept wondering what I could do. I thought about offering to help cook, but cooking for so many mouths really overwhelmed me. Then I realized what a COMMITMENT this awesome woman had made to these children.....EVERYDAY!!!At Christmas, instead of giving gifts I gave a donation to her organization (and to our Humane Society) instead of buying things that people really didn't need.But it kept tugging at my heart. So, I decided for the month of February I would post several heart themed items to my blog. They would be for sale, and I would give 25% of the cost of the item to Lovely, to help with her costs.I may post an item everyday or I may post several items a week.....I am really not sure, but 25% will go to "Feed the Children" in Abaco, Bahamas.I CANNOT imagine going without food, or only having one meal a day that I had to rely on someone else to bring to me, and these children shouldn't have to deal with this either, so please help!}

Happy Hump Day!
I have a totally new item for today's heart item.
A Patchwork Heart Scarf.  I really love scarves, and this year in Abaco, we have not had much of a winter to wear them.  So I have been trying to come up with a lighter weight scarf to wear in our climate.  I have some silk ones in the process of being made also, but for today here is the Patchwork Heart Scarf....

There are five randomly pieced hearts and the entire scarf is made from batiks.

It is about 54 inches by 10.5 inches, and can be worn in a variety of different ways.

It is $56, and 25% of that goes to Feed the Children Abaco.
If you are interested in it you can find it on my Bahama Dawn Facebook page......{HERE}
Or in my Etsy shop......{HERE}

Howdy!
Getting today's post up at the last minute.....eeekkkk!
Today I have another quilted journal cover. I'm telling you the ideas I have for these are endless so they will be coming at you for a while!
I am calling this journal cover "Scrappy Love".

Like the name implies, it is made from scraps, frayed fabrics, burlap, an old pair of jeans, an old shirt.....yep lots of scraps!
If I could have put my hands on my vintage lace collection I would have added that also, but I have stashed that in such a great place that I can't even find it!!

Like all my other quilted journal covers, this one fits a Mead Composition Journal which can be replaced. This journal also has a few messages.....on the inside flap, printed on the selvage of the fabric it reads, "We need time to dream, time to remember, & time to reach for the infinite. Time to be".

On the front, on a flap of frayed muslin I stamped, in permanent ink, "Trust your crazy ideas".

This cover is completely machine washable, and will only get softer the more it is washed. All those frays will be even better!

The back of the journal I left kind of plain, with just the frayed denim and the striped jersey fabric.

This journal cover with a Mead Composition book is $45, and 25% of that goes to Feed the Children Abaco.
You can message me on my facebook page......{HERE}
Or find it in my Etsy shop.....{HERE}

Crazy Wonky Heart Potholders

Happy Monday everyone!!
I slacked off the end of last week on posting....sorry about that!! Will make up for it this week hopefully!  Thursdays I work at my husband's business, so that day got away from me.  Friday I went into town to run a few errands and grocery shop and came home with a little foster puppy.  So my afternoon was spent doing puppy time :)  Very therapeutic!

My item for today is a set of potholders that I have named, Crazy Wonky Hearts.  They are bright, colorful, wonky and fun!!

The hearts are made from Jennifer Heynen's, aka Jangles, first fabric line.  I have had these fabrics for a while and just couldn't cut them because they were so pretty!!
I am glad I saved them for these potholders.  I think they are perfect!

These hearts are free pieced, no pattern, so one came out a different size than the other, but I think that gives them some fun character!

Who wants matchy-matchy anyway?
The hearts may be different sizes, but the potholders are both 9 inches square.

The backs have a hanger on one of the top corners.
These potholders are $28 for the set, and 25% of that goes to Feed the Children Abaco.
Later today I will get them in my Etsy shop......{HERE}
Or you can message me on my Bahama Dawn Facebook page.....{HERE}

Have a beautifully creative week!!

Happy Hump Day!
I am a bit obsessed with journals and journaling right now, so I will be posting quite a few.  Today's item is another journal cover!  This one is a quilted cover for a Mead Composition Book, called Live~Love~laugh.

The base of the quilted cover is cotton fabrics in shades of natural and white.  On top of this are appliqued hearts in burlap, denim and jersey fabrics.

One of the hearts on the back has a touch of mixed media, with some onion bag embellishment.....hey, if a famous singer can go to the Grammys with this over her face then it must be very trendy!

Live, Love and Laugh are stitched onto the white fabric which is then appliqued on to the recycled denim.

I quilted a heart pattern all over the base fabric of the journal.

Since I like hidden messages, I stamped "trust your crazy ideas" on the inside flap, in permanent ink.

This journal is $45, and just like all the other heart items this month, 25% goes to Feed the Children Abaco.
You can find this, and other items in my Etsy store....{HERE}

Heart Journal for Heart Day ~ Pay it Forward February

{Have you ever heard about a situation and it just breaks your heart and you feel like you HAVE TO do something about it?A few months back I met a lady, Lovely Reckley, and she told me how she goes to four different schools in Abaco and feeds 85+ children that would have otherwise had no lunch. Happy Heart Day!!!
I wanted something really fitting for today, and in my mind I came up with that!
I made a journal that I am calling a Heart Journal, which to me, describes any journal because you are filling it with messages and creations from your heart.

The journal is five and a half inches wide by seven and a half inches tall.
The front and back cover are made from a light weight chipboard, which has been collaged with paper, paint, burlap, buttons, cotton fabrics, and stitching.

The spine, which the pages are sewn to is a piece of cotton cloth with butterflies on it, and ric rac.  The pages inside are 90 pound watercolor paper, and there are ten of them.  So you can write, glue, sketch or paint to your hearts delight.

The inside cover reminds you to giggle.

Enjoy life, enjoy friends.

There are a few *extra* pages that are smaller than the main ten pages.  One is a mailing tag, one a piece of scrapbooking paper, and one a smaller piece of watercolor paper.  All of these are stitched into the spine with the rest of the pages.

The smaller pages are perfect for items like ticket stubs, receipts, any other little piece of memorabilia, or an inspirational quote.

The back inside cover is painted and has a numerical stamp.  You can finish decorating this or leave it as is.

Sorry for all the pictures, but I want you to see all the details!  Just a few more of the front cover......

The mini burlap and fabric sandwich adds a bit of texture.

This mixed media Heart Journal is $36, and 25% of that goes to Feed the Children Abaco.  I will have it up in my Etsy store....... {HERE} .........later tonight.
Thanks for stopping by!
Spread some love this week, and everyday!

Happy Monday!
I am late posting today, but better later than never.
Today's item is an enameled copper heart with filigree wings.
I am calling this piece, "Heart of Blues Takes Flight".

From wing tip to wing tip the pendant is two and a half inches.  When it hangs on a chain, it hangs about an inch and three quarters.

I am really enjoying incorporating other metals into my work.  I have a bunch of filigree (which I think is coated brass) that I bought for who-knows-what, and never used it.

It can be soldered onto other metals, cut and enameled!  So much fun!
This piece is $44, and 25% goes to Feed the Children Abaco.  That price is for the pendant only.

I will be posting it in my Etsy shop.....{HERE}.....soon, but if you go there and it is not there, drop me a message because my internet connection is really slow right now so it may take a while to get it posted.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hello!
I was M.I.A. yesterday because I decided to go to the doctor to find out that I have laryngitis!! Today is day 4 with no voice. Very frustrating, and my furry children are fully taking advantage of me! Doc says I should feel better by the weekend or early next week........*sigh*
Today I am listing my Guard Your Heart Journal that I showed you a few weeks ago in this post.

I made this for my show and was so very proud of this. Can you believe it was the only journal cover that did not sell? So I am putting it out there one last time. If there are no takers this time then it is meant to be mine :)

This journal cover fits a Mead Composition Book, so it can be reused over and over and is machine washable.

It is a sewn collage of cotton fabrics, burlap and buttons.
Full of texture!

This journal cover is $45, and 25% of that will go to Feed the Children Abaco.
You can find it in my Etsy store......HERE.
Or you can message me on my Bahama Dawn Facebook page....HERE.
